Massage for Children with TraumaThe comprehensive Touch Therapy for Liddle Kidz® with Trauma (Massage for Children with Trauma) Course for massage therapists and healthcare professionals provides educational and professional training to those who wish to enhance their skills.

Through this advanced training, participants learn to provide massage therapy, nurturing touch techniques and touch therapy for children affected by trauma.

The impact of child abuse and trauma is far greater than its immediate effects. Trauma may come in many forms including hospitalization, experiencing physical and verbal abuse, witnessing traumatic events and traumatic natural events. These experiences can shape a child’s development, and have consequences that last for years beyond the actual event.

Research now shows that the physical, psychological, and behavioral consequences of child abuse and neglect impact not just impact the child and family, but the community as a whole. With appropriate safe, and effective interventions, we can provide children with compassion, nurturing and tools to ease the effects of trauma.

Children's responses to trauma are unique and can be distinguished from those of adults. So, professionals wishing to work with this population should have specialized training to provide effective support.

Pediatric massage therapy may be a supportive therapy that can be readily applied, most effectively by specially trained massage therapists or by caregivers who have learned massage techniques from a skilled, educated massage therapist. Pediatric massage and nurturing touch are the most appropriate massage techniques to use in this population. When using massage therapy for children with experiences of Trauma, your work does not need to be aggressive to achieve its maximum potential.

Providing touch therapy for children who have experienced trauma requires specific skills to adapt massage and nurturing touch techniques suited for the child’s specific emotional and physical care. This course is designed for those who want to work specifically with children who have been affected by traumatic experiences.

During the Liddle Kidz® Foundation Touch Therapy for Liddle Kidz with Trauma you will learn about childhood trauma, effects of trauma, addressing children safely, appropriate positioning, pediatric massage techniques, nurturing touch techniques, and the most common affects that children experience following trauma, and how these experiences shape their lives.

We will discuss various benefits for children and caregivers, current research and the importance of communication and attachment in building healthy emotional relationships. You will learn how to communicate with parents, caregivers and healthcare providers, and how best to reach children who need your services most.

Specific concerns associated with massage use among younger children and adolescents may include fear of massage being administered by a stranger and apprehensions around touch. In order to gain the child’s trust, during this course we will discuss appropriate approach to safely introduce massage and nurturing touch.

Massage and touch therapy techniques for working with children with varied traumatic experiences will be demonstrated and practiced during hands-on in class sessions. The benefits and importance of individualized adaptations for using massage therapy will be explained.
